The Path
One of the beauties of working in the publishing industry is that every author and manuscript on their quest for publication are unique! Accordingly, I do not arbitrarily map out a universal editing process or cost. However, I can sketch the outline of a path forward. What follows is my general—but malleable—process.

1: Questionnaire
I’ll respond, and if it looks like we’ll be a good fit, we’ll proceed to the next step!
2: Sample Edit
I’ll request your manuscript and $75 to cover a sample edit and review meeting.
Once I receive those, I will edit about five pages (or 1,250 words) of your double-spaced, 12-point Times New Roman manuscript.
In a video meeting up to forty-five minutes, I will recommend next steps, potentially including suggestions for self-editing that could be implemented before purchasing a full edit (possibly saving you money). This meeting is also a chance for us to get to know each other better, to catch each other’s vision for the journey ahead, and to discern how we might best work together.
3: Full Edit
After we both agree to continue with a complete edit of your manuscript, I will send an editing agreement and invoice. Upon the completion of those items, I will do the edit in the time frame we established (barring unforeseen circumstances; also keep in mind that any changes to the project will likely impact its deadline).
The Chicago Manual of Style (Eighteenth Edition) and the Merriam-Webster.com dictionary form the basis of my edits.
I do line editing and copyediting in Microsoft Word with Track Changes turned on to notate each edit I suggest. I will return the edited manuscript to you via an email attachment as a Microsoft Word document with Track Changes turned on. Using Track Changes yourself, you can then accept or reject each of my editorial suggestions. If you’re unfamiliar with Track Changes, we can also work through that. Some editing jobs will require and include a second brief pass by me after you review my initial edits.
I proofread pdf manuscripts and will email my notes to you in a Microsoft Word document for you to implement the changes.
